snitty cynical snide elliptical post-NEWFORMALFETISH regard for X,

Tony Leuzzi's 40,000 Crows
We all have certain books we come back to again and again when we lose our way, those which remind us why we are here, what we are doing, where we are going, those which help us to make sense of our individual journeys. 40,000 Crows is one of those books. Generous, humble, gentle and curious, this collection of 32 cadae (poems based on the transcendental number pi) picks up where Basho’s haiku left off. I can think of few authors more likely to blush and dismiss such a claim as preposterous. Nor can I find, when I scan my bookshelf, a poet more worthy of such a comparison.

Jim McCrary's Not Not
This is poming that, well, who knows, it could be his last book. He won’t resist. He may have more coming, but for now, he’s “gonna let it all hang out from his end.” He doesn’t need “hope”; he’s letting go of “fear,” which is hope’s flipside, Fritz Perls wrote. He’s just going to put it up, and he’s been putting up with it for a long time. He thinks to broadcast “vast amounts to many publications,” but with no return address, as he doesn’t, umm, ugh, umm, want to listen to the response. And why should he. It doesn’t matter. And what does matter, really? Maybe just the one thing, that one writes what one writes, and one signs one’s name to it. He writes this, Not Not, and he signs his name to it. I, myself, care, and I don’t care, in some special cases, precisely what friends and best friends write if they have the will and the heart to sign their names to it; that’s perhaps, as the Object Relations folks say, “good enough,” which is okay by my conscience, also. It’s an existential choice and decision and if they sign their names to it, “take responsibility” for it, I do think that that is probably quite good enough. All the rest is Sales, Marketing, Politics, Power, Status, “History,” and so very little “existence,” or should I say “existing.” It doesn’t matter. It all matters.

Steve Tills' Post Maiden
This is poming in the act of commentary becoming an act of art, presenting the best paradox possible: that of fruits and gifts so eminent and entrancing that they are necessary roughage, making Post Maiden an antidote to our pesanteur.

Judith Roitman's Slackline
Dear J —
I don’t know how you did it, but you’ve conjured up this singular world and
yanked us into it — and mystified and charmed and moved us all at once.
Your abstractions, unlike many others’, don’t leave us feeling out of the loop,
wondering why we don’t “get it.” With you, we do get it — because your
humanity is so obviously at the center of their creation.

Eric Selland's Still Lifes
In
‘redeemable poetic life’ the linguistic move from perception
through form to commodification and semi-ultimate silence begs this
question: How can we remember and pay homage to the objects whose
inherent qualities we have removed in our operation of treating these
as ‘materials’? Another way to ask this is, ‘what
happened to the world’? Eric Selland, in the short, meditative
paragraphs of Still
Lifes,
does it by letting memory unsheathe itself, and go glinting around
all that remains, the present – and presence – being the
perfect foil for this novel exercise involving what is beautiful and
good as these lock into place at the exhaustive point(s) where they
touch the useful and the true. He shows us a world by revealing the
ways it happens in us, through us, beyond us and before us, ‘as
if we were really there’ in language that is actively ‘here.’
Just so. And away we go. –
